Internet Policy for the Ellwood City Area Public Library
All users of electronic information resources are expected to use them responsibly,
consistent with the educational
and informational purposes for which they are provided. Internet access is provided
to the public in designated areas
of the library. The only cost to the public is any printed material associated with
the use of our printers. Each
printed page is $.10, and you must pay for ALL pages printed.
Rules Governing Use:
- Only one person may use the computer at a timne. One observer or tutor is
permitted to be present.
- Reservations may be made at the Circulation Desk, for one-half hour or hour usage only.
Sessions are
reserved on a first come basis and may be phoned in. The library is not responsible
for any interruption or
inability to use the computer equipment due to power failure or computer malfunction.
- Walk-ins will be allowed if a computer is free and not reserved. The last
appointment of the day will be
one hour prior to closing time.
- The library staff is available to give a brief orientation on the computer.
However, due to scheduling restraints,
there may not be a trained computer staff person available at all times.
- Parents must be responsible for their children for all internet computer usage.
Responsibility for decisions about
appropriateness in usage rests with the parents or legal guardians. Children under
18 must obtain ON-SITE
written approval from their parents to use the computers. Children under 12
must be accompanied by an adult
to use the computers.
- Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software. Misuse or abuse of
computers or internet
access, or any violation of this policy, will result in suspension of library privileges.
The user agrees to reimburse
the library for damage to the computer equipment caused by negligence or vandalism.
- Retrieve or use obscene, pornographic, or illegal materials.
- Use disks brought from outside the library. Blank preformatted disks may be
purchased at the Circulation Desk
for $.50. These disks are then filed under the patron's name and kept at the
Circulation Desk. However, the
library cannot be responsible for lost or damaged disks.
- Alter or attach equipment or software to the library's computers
- Store files, documents or information on the library's computers.
I have read these rules and agree to the conditions contained within. It is
understood that if I violate any of the
above conditions, my privileges for using the Internet will be suspended. Continuing
to violate these rules will result
in privileges being revoked.
