F. D. Campbell Memorial Library Acceptable Use of the Internet
F. D. Campbell Memorial Library’s computer provides access to the Internet. To establish a library account, users must first read and sign this acceptable use policy.
If students under 12 years old want to use the computer, parents must stay with their child. A student 12 to 18 years old must have a permission slip from a parent or adult who is responsible for that student. If the account has been established previously, the adult can call with permission. Parents must be responsible for their children for all Internet and computer usage. Responsibility for decisions about appropriateness in usage rests with the parents or legal guardians.
The Internet is an electronic information and communications network connecting millions of computers and millions of people all over the world. F. D. Campbell Memorial Library users with accounts have access to any or all of the following:
1. Information and news from a wide variety of sources and research institutions.
2. Public domain and shareware software of all types.
3. Access to many educational institutes and libraries and companies.
With access to computers and people all over the world also comes the availability of some material that may not be considered of educational value within the context of the work setting or educational setting. Following are some guidelines to establish parameters for use of this resource. This material is loosely defined in 18Pa CS 5903.

This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, threatening material, explicit sexual material, obscene material, or material protected by trade secret or other agreements. Also, transmitted material must not discriminate on the basis of race, creed , color, gender, religion or disability.
II. Privileges: Inappropriate use of F. D. Campbell Library’s services may result in the need to revoke or suspend specific user accounts.
III. Use of the computer: Members can use the Internet or type using a word processor. E-mail is available if that E-mail use is in support of education or research guidelines. No one can use chat rooms or instant messaging. The computer is for educational purposes only. The Internet takes precedence over C D program use or games. The three computers in the main room and the Imac in the easy room are designated as public use computers. The librarian will close down and shut off and start up the computers.
Misuse or abuse of computers or Internet access, or any violation of this policy will result in suspension of library privileges. Do not pull up material that could be considered undesirable or anything that could be deemed offensive by others. This is an individual or parental responsibility. Minors are not permitted to access explicit sexual materials as defined in 18 Pa CS 5903. If the librarian notices material on the screen that may offend some other member of the library, she will signal the computer user by a tap on their shoulder. Two shoulder taps and the member loses computer use privileges.
