We welcome and support all people in their enjoyment of reading and pursuit of lifelong learning.

Working together, we strive to provide equal access to information, ideas and knowledge through books, programs and other resources.

We believe in the freedom to read, to learn, to discover.

Throughout the years since its origin in 1915, the Mercer Area Library has continued to expand its facilities and its services to the community.  The present building was completed in 1970, and the new addition, housing children's books and reading areas, was finished in 1982.  Each year patrons make 24,000 visits to the Library and use 58,000 books and other materials.  Our Library is both an invaluable resource and a source of considerable pride for all members of our community.

Our collections include:  Books, Cassettes, Magazines, Newspapers,

Pamphlets and Videos.   Internet Access is available.

Interlibrary loans are available upon request through the Mercer Area Library.

                                              MEMBERSHIP

Membership is free to all residents in the Borough of Mercer, and to non-residents who own property in the school district of Mercer.  The memberships are also available to residents of Findley, Coolspring, East lackawannock and Jefferson Townships.

Library cards are issued at $20.00 per family to non-residents.  These memberships are effective for one year from date of registration and are not transferable.

Children may have their own cards when they reach the 1st grade.  Prior to this, their books must be checked out on their parent's card.  A parent must sign a registration card for a child age 6-13.

All applicants must produce identification showing name and current address.  Cards will be issued immediately with proper ID.  You must show your library card

to check out any library materials.  Adults are responsible for overdue, lost or damaged books checked out by their children.

The borrowing period for books is for two weeks.

Videos may be borrowed for two days.

Patrons may reserve books and will be notified when the books become available.

MEMORIALS - Establishing a Library Memorial is a simple process.  Just come to the library, state the amount you wish to donate, the name of the person honored, and to whom the acknowledgment should be sent.  A special bookplate will be placed in books given as memorials.

Donations also may be made in the form of ENDOWMENTS. All gifts will be retained in the fund and only the interest will be used to meet financial responsibilities.  Each gift will be recorded and appropriately recognized.

ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA is a system to allow people to borrow materials from participating libraries across the state.
